南東ロンドンのBexleyの森の散策に行ってきました。
ちょっとした散歩のつもりが、後でGPS軌跡を見てみると歩行距離は９マイル以上になっていました。
Forest walk in Bexley, South East London.
It was originally intended to be a little refreshing walk, which turned out to be some nine miles on the GPS tracker.
往路、Great Western Railwayの路線上のLee駅を通過。
現在はロンドンのルイシャム区とグリニッジ区に跨る地域だが
以前はケント州に属していた。
シャーロック・ホームズの冒険の一遍唇が捻れた男の登場人物
ネヴィル・セントクレア氏は当地在住との設定。
ちなみにルイシャムも当時はケント州、こちらもシャーロック・ホームズの一遍修道院屋敷にて当地に本拠地を置くルイシャム・ギャングなる愚連隊が登場する。
たぶん、今もそんなに土地柄は変わらないと思われるが・・・
Calling at Lee station on Great Western Railway.
It now lies over the London borough of Lewisham and Greenwich, although it used to belong to the county of Kent.
I remembered it to be where the Sherlock Holmes story character ‘Nevil St. Clare’ from ‘The Adventure of the Man with Twisted Lips’.
Lewisham also appears in another story in the series.
The ruthless ‘Lewisham Gang’ is mentioned in ‘The Adventure of The Abbey Grange’.
It rather maintains the same reputation to this day, I am afraid…
Bexley駅に降り立つ。

町中を流れるクレイ川。
トラウトが生息しているとの情報は無いが、ぱっと見如何にも居そう。
River Cray runs through the town centre.
There is no mention of the existence of the Trout, but it looks like a typical trout stream.
駅から１５分ほど歩いてJoyden’s Wood入口に到着。
Fifteen minutes walk from the station took me to the entrance to Joyden’s Wood.
初めて出会ったきのこはとうに旬の過ぎたTrooping Funnel。
The first encounter with the fungi of the day was this Trooping Funnel.
森の常連・Butter Cap。

今回出会えて一番嬉しかった毒きのこ・
フォールス・シャントレル！
その名の通りグルメ・マッシュルームとして名高いシャントレルや
ウィンター・シャントレルに似ている。

As the name suggests, it looks like the Chanterelle and the Winter Chanterelle.
Leafy Brain。
姿形はきくらげに似ているが食するには値しないとのこと。

こちらも食するには値しないとのこと。

クレイ川で釣りをしようと思って道具を持ってきたのだが...

大きな鯉を目撃しただけに残念。
It was a shame that it could not be fished, especially after witnessing big Carps swimming about.
流域の森にはなぜか外来種であろう笹が生えていた。
Obviously invasive Bamboo grew in a nearby wood.
駅に向かって草原をゆく。
たわわに実る犬バラの実・ローズヒップ。
お茶にするため少々頂いてきた。
Rosehips grown in masses were spotted as I walked through a grassland towards the station.
I picked some to brew tea with.

翌朝、
ローズヒップ茶を淹れてみた。
はじめに洗ったローズヒップ１に対し４倍の水で火にかける。
沸騰したら弱火にして１５分ほど煮出す。
I made Rosehip tea the next morning.
After giving them a good rinse, I put them in a sauce pan with water with a ratio of 1:4.
I brought it to a boil and them left to simmer for 15 minutes.
種を覆うせん毛はイガイガするらしいので、
こし器とコーヒーフィルターで二重に濾過する。
The hair which covers the seeds could be an irritant.
I used a sieve and my paper coffee filter.

爽やかな酸味とバラの香り、まろやかなコクの三重奏。
これは旨い。
去年はこれでコーディアルを作ったが、
こちらのほうが好みかな。

This is pretty good stuff!
I prefer this to the Rosehip cordial that I made last year.
