先日、所用でレディングに行ってきました。市内を流れるテムズ川、ケネット川でひょっとすると釣りする時間が作れるかも…との淡い期待は見事打ち砕かれましたが、代わりに図らずも土地のグルメを堪能することとなりました。

An attempted fishing session? in Reading, which turned out to be a gourmet tour.
大好物のひとつ、フィッシュアンドチップス。
外食自体あまりしませんが、する場合は高確率でこれです。
READINGはTHE LEMON PLAICEという店。
魚はコッド、コッド・ロー(コッドの卵)、ロック、そしてチップスを注文。
ロックは少々生臭く感心しませんでしたが
コッドとチップスは絶品！コッド・ローもなかなかいけます。
日替わりメニューの中にBASAという東南アジア原産のナマズもありました。
チャンスがあったら試してみたい。
I hardly eat out but when I do, more often than not, it's fish and chips.
On this journey, we popped into a chippy called 'The Lemon Plaice'.
We were not impressed by the slightly fishy smelling Rock, a better than average Cod Roe, and Cod and Chips that were absolutely brilliant!
One of the specials was a type of catfish called Basa.
I would like to try it if I get a chance.

So far my number one fish shop has got to be 'Stones fish and chips' in Acton.
Everything on the menu is excellent, especially the Cod Roe^^
帰路、地元では有名らしい「Sweeney & Todd」というパイ＆パスティの店に寄りました。
パイはなかなかに安い・デカい・うまいで満足しました。
ちなみにこの店名の由来は、イギリスに古くから伝わる話で
「Sweeney Toddという人殺しがロンドンの街に素性を隠して潜伏。彼は根っからの殺人狂、理髪店を隠れ蓑に客を剃刀で片っ端から切り殺す。死体はパイ屋を営む共犯の女がをパイの具にしてことごとく消費し、まもなくその味は評判となり店は大いに繁盛…」
洒落か偶然か、この店の左隣はなんと、床屋でした笑
On our way back, we bought pies and pasties at 'Sweeney and Todd'.
The servings were pretty big and tasty, definitely good value for money^^
By the by, whether by intention or not, the shop next door was a barber shop.So far my number one fish shop has got to be 'Stones fish and chips' in Acton.

人肉パイレシピほど後味悪くはないでしょうがこれ、
庭で収穫した釣り餌用のミミズです(-_-;)
釣りに出かけられない日は、ミミズを掘ろう…
The earthworms I dug out from our back garden to use as fishing bait.
Hope the sight of them does not leave as bad an aftertaste as the original recipes for Sweeney Todd's Pie did...
